great week

What a great week of fishing on Flathead Lake. I was out 5 days this past week and averaged 16 fish per day. This is the time to catch those big fish feeding. Try 120ft of water to 200ft. fish the bottom with  big flatfish , echip. Blue and silver, blue with yellow /green.

Flathead Lake

Another great day on Flathead Lake. We boated 19 fish. 5 over the slot, one at 20lbs., 8 under the slot and 6 slot fish. We fished the west shore north of Angel Point and south. Most  fish came in 120ft of water on the bottom with flatfish.

good day

Fished today for the first time on Flathead Lake this year. We boated 2 real nice fish over the slot, one at 37″ 16 lbs.  and one at 39″ 19lbs. We also boated 4 nice fish just under the slot, perfect for the grill. I fished off Painted Rocks in 180′ of water, and fished the center bar in 90′ of water. Nice day a bit chilly in the morning. I fished all flatfish on the bottom. Silver and blue flatfish seemed to be the best color today, with the echip.

Lots of fish

The lake trout fishing has been red hot on Flathead. Lots of slot fish and just under slot fish being caught. This is my favorite time to fish Flathead as the action is fast and furious. A 20 to 30 fish day is not that uncommon. Westshore State Park has the dock in the water and it is very usable.  Try the common dodger and squid combo, or the flatfish on the bottom.  120 to 200 ft. of water is yielding most of the fish. Most fishing is being done on the west side of the lake.

Don’t forget to get signed up for the Mack Days.

Rainbow’s/Bulls

Last saturday, feb. 13, we had a great day on Lake Koocanusa. We boated 9 fish, 5 rainbows, 4 bull trout. Largest rainbow was 12 lbs., biggest bull was 14 lbs.. The ice went out early on Rexford Bench, that allowed us to fish the north end of the lake earlier than any previous year.  The fish were very active and we had a steady bite all day long. All the fish were caught on Lyman Plugs and Rapala’s. We had a very calm day so I did not even try flies, we were doing good on what we  had out there so I did not change our presentation. If it works don’t fix it! There was only one other boat on the lake. This is truely a under fished resource. Get up there and give it a try before the run off starts. The most recent pictures will be up on the home page shortly. By the way this is a huge body of water, lots of fish, there is plenty of room for locals and visitors alike.

Big fish time

Okay, the winter is passing, and the big fish are biting.  Flathead Lake is getting prime for late winter, early spring fishing. A friend was out this morning and  brought in one fish over the slot, two in the slot, and two just under the slot. The weather is the only unknown this time of year, big fish can be caught.

Winter went well for Mo Fisch. Made a couple ice fishing trips out to Ashley and Bitteroot Lake, also Lake Mary Ronan.

I vacationed on Maui for a week, a great trip,  caught 5 dolphin, and I had a Blue Marlin on for 45 minutes, now that is a fight, and the fish won!

We also made it over to the Seattle Boat Show, if it floats it is at that show.

Get geared up and get out on the big lake. The boat ramp is in at West Shore State Park. Just check the weather forcast and use common sense.
