Another good day on Flathead Lake. We caught 7 fish, 1 over the slot at 40″ 19.0lbs., 4 in the slot. The secret today was to keep moving. I tried 3 different locations before we got right on top of some active fish. When we finally found fish that wanted to feed we had 6 in the boat in less than 1 hour. I usually spend about 30 to 45 minutes in one location, if I don’t see many fish on the fish finder , or catch any fish I move. Sometimes it is a good idea to move to an entirely different area of the lake.
The lake trout fishing remains to be steady. We were out for a couple of hours last saturday, and managed to put 5 nice fish in the boat. Last Friday we caught 11, fish all just under the slot. The weather was perfect. The fish seemed a little less active and are moving around the lake. Most of the fish we cleaned were feeding on shrimp. I am still fishing on the bottom with flatfish, frog color worked well. Still looking for Mr. BIG! in 160′ to 200′ of water.
Remember it is a test
Fishing of Flathead today was a very good day. We boated 13 fish, six were in the slot. It was perfect weather. We fished in 140ft. of water. It was a morning bite, by 11:00 am the bite slowed way down. Typically it is a morning bite. We used big flatfish on the bottom. Frog pattern worked very well. South of Painted Rock, and norh of Angel Point were the hot spots.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Mack Days. March 12th-May 23rd.
See ya on the lake
