FALL FISHING

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 6:33 pm

Fall fishing on the north end of Flathead Lake is time searching out fish. When you find large schools of fish, then try trolling dodgers with houchies. I like a chrome dodger in 8″ with a mother of pearl houtchie. I use a 24″ leader between the dodger and squid. I also use a dodger with a spoon tied on a 28″ leader.  The fish are on the move to their spawning areas. Try Wayfarer’s State Park in 100 to 120′ of water. Also Angel Point has lots of fish staging off the point. Inside Hockaday Bay is also a favoriate spot. I am still pulling flatfish early in the morning in 160ft of water along the east shoreline. Off of Angel Point we have been picking up some fish suspended at 55′ over 120′ of water. Today a perch colored spoon worked very well for those suspended fish.

spring fishing

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 6:52 am

Spring fishing has been good. Yesterday we caught 10 fish, one of which was a slot fish, at 33″. The fish seemed to be very active and willing to bite. The runoff continues. The fish are starting to suspend throughout the water column. We were fishing in 140 ft of water and catching fish at 30, 55,  65, 85ft.  and on the bottom. Watch you fish finder, present your lures at whatever depth you see the fish. Be flexible move with the fish. We caught fish on dodger/houchie combo’s, spoons and stick baits.  As this spring weather pattern settles down I look for more consistent fishing. Try the north delta area, as well as the center bar.

Spring Fishing

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 8:25 am

It is definitely spring weather.  The fishing has been very difficult.  We have been catching 5 to 6  fish a charter. I am mostly fishing the bottom with flatfish from Yakima Bait the M2SP Flatfish in red/white,  silver / blue,  Mother of Pearl all are working well.

The run off is in full swing. Fish the edges of the mud line and in the mud line. You will start to see many suspended fish now that the water temperature is starting to suspend. Find the depths of the fish on your finder and try some spoons, dodger/houchies.

Flathead Lake

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 2:48 pm

Well the fishing has been kinda tough this past week. I was out this morning, we put 5 nice fish in the boat. I was trolling 8″ flashers with white houchie squids. I trolled in 160 to 200 ft. of water. South of the delta on the east side is where  I found lots of fish. The run off has slowed down due to this cold weather. I again saw  fish on the finder, they are not biting very aggresive. I did see some fishermen that were jigging, they too were catching fish.

runoff

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 4:45 pm

The runoff has started. We have been fishing on the east side of the delta. The fish are there, just try different spoons and flasher combinations. We had mixed results last sunday with spoons, and dodger squid combinations. Also jigging in the 160′ of water was producing good numbers of small fish. I troll the edges of the mud line as well as in the muddy water. The wind will push the mud line around the lake. Watch your fish finder and you will see the schools of fish. Troll your spoons just over the top of the schools. If you find large schools of fish, stop and jig for them. Be flexible and you will catch fish.

Steady fishing

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 6:08 pm

Fished this morning and it was very frustrating. We are seeing a lot of fish on the fish finder, but cannot figure out how to get them to bite. We did manage to put 6 fish in the boat. I am hearing the same results from many of the other boats. I figure stay with it, mix up your presentation and the bite should turn on any day. Keep fishing and that day should come soon. The fish today were all caught on spoons. Try crockadile, in perch pattern, and the brown melon by Diamond King. It is time to experiment some and show the fish something different, you just might hit on the right combination.

Steady

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 7:10 pm

We did two charters on Flathead Lake today and both boats caught 10 fish each. Biggest fish was 37″ at 19lbs. I also boated 5 slot fish. It was a nice calm day and the fishing stayed steady. We were fishing the center bar just south of the delta. We fishied in 140′ of water on the bottom with flatfish. It was definately a morning bite as I put 5 fish in the boat in the first hour. I would reccomend getting out there as early as possible.

keep moving

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 3:47 pm

Another good day on Flathead Lake. We caught 7 fish, 1 over the slot at 40″ 19.0lbs., 4 in the slot. The secret today was to keep moving. I tried 3 different locations before we  got right on top of some active fish. When we finally found fish that wanted to feed we had 6 in the boat in less than 1 hour. I usually spend about 30 to 45 minutes in one location, if I don’t see many fish on the fish finder , or catch any fish I move. Sometimes it is a good idea to move to an entirely different area of the lake.

Lake Trout

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 8:46 am

The lake trout fishing remains to be steady.  We were out  for a couple of hours last saturday, and managed to put 5 nice fish in the boat. Last Friday we caught 11, fish all just under the slot. The weather was perfect. The fish seemed a little less active and are moving around the lake. Most of the fish we cleaned were feeding on shrimp. I am still fishing on the bottom with flatfish, frog color worked well. Still looking for Mr. BIG! in 160′ to 200′ of water.

Great Day

Filed under: Flathead Lake — admin @ 10:05 pm

Fishing of Flathead today was a very good day. We boated 13 fish, six were in the slot. It was perfect weather. We fished in 140ft. of water. It was a morning bite, by 11:00 am the bite slowed way down. Typically it is a morning bite. We used big flatfish on the bottom. Frog pattern worked very well. South of Painted Rock, and norh of Angel Point were the hot spots.

Don’t forget to sign up  for the Mack Days. March 12th-May 23rd.
